The names of the three people who died in a fatal road collision near Claremorris yesterday have not yet been officially released to the media.

However, it is known that the woman who died when her car was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry on the N17 at Castlegar, was in her late 30s or early 40s.

Her two daughters, aged 14 and 9, also died at the crash scene.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

It is understood the driver of the car was travelling from Donegal towards Galway.

The family are believed to be from county Galway but also have connections in county Donegal.

The woman’s husband is working abroad at the moment. He has been informed of the tragedy and arrangements are being made for his return to Ireland.

Post mortem examinations are being carried out at Mayo University Hospital.
