"It's a black day for Mayo and the country, as people try to come to terms with an unprecedented number of fatalities from tragedies in the county yesterday".
That's according to the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Michael Loftus.
The Cathaoirleach has extended his sympathy to the families and friends of all who lost their lives yesterday in Mayo - a couple who died in a house fire in Swinford and a woman and two children who were fatally injured in a collision close to Claremorris.
He has also praised the efforts of the emergency services who attended both incidents.
