An Garda Síochána have released an updated statement in relation to a house fire in Swinford this morning.
It is understood that the fire has claimed the life of two people.
An Garda Síochána have stated the following this afternoon:
Gardaí received a report of a fire at a domestic residence in the Deerpark area of Swinford, County Mayo, shortly after 2:00am on Tuesday 26th March 2024.
Local fire services attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
The body of one person has been recovered within the extensively damaged residence.
This body remains at the scene at this time.
The scene of the fire is currently preserved for a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The office of the local Coroner has been notified.
Enquiries are ongoing.
