Councillor Adrian Forkan has said that there is a numbing shock in the community of Swinford today following the tragic news that two people have died in a house fire.
Emergency Services were called to the scene of a house fire in the Deerpark area around 2:00am this morning.
An elderly couple have died as a result.
The couple are yet to be named, but it is understood that they are very well known to the area having run a business in the town for many years.
Gardaí and Emergency Services remain at the scene.
