Terence O'Rourke looks set be named today as the new chair of the RTE board later today.
The former KPMG managing director is the current ESB chairman, and previously served on the board of the Irish Times.
It's understood his appointment has the support of all three coalition party leaders.
His selection is expected to be put before a full meeting of the Cabinet today for approval.
