The Regional Independents have called for the VAT rate for restaurants, pubs and cafes to be reduced to 9 percent.
The Dail is currently debating a motion from the group about increased costs on small businesses.
It's been claimed that the costs of goods and services in Ireland is 46 percent higher than the EU average.
