There has been a 22% increase in the number of burglaries in the Mayo Garda Division in the past 12 months.

That's according to recent CSO figures released by PhoneWatch, which is the second highest increase in a garda division nationally.

According to An Garda Síochána reports for national incidents, 26% of burglars enter homes through the back door, 24% via back windows and 8% through front windows, with 1 in 5 cases involving a burglar gaining access through an unsecure door or window.

There was also increases in Galway and Sligo Leitrim divisions at 1% and 17% respectively.

Roscommon/Longford division saw a decrease of 8%.
