A local election candidate has called on Mayo University Hospital to appoint a Bereavement Officer.
Independent candidate Harry Barrett says that it is crucial that MUH now look to appoint a Bereavement Officer immediately, to offer supportive care to families during such challenging times.
He says that there are five main points to the role of a Bereavement Officer, including to address family queries, clarify medical and coroner cases, give guidance on mortuary procedures, understand the role of the coroner, and liaise with hospital staff.
According to Mr. Barrett, the role of Bereavement Officer was advertised by Galway University Hospital back in 2018, and says it is time for MUH to follow suit.
