People in Donegal, Mayo and Galway have been urged not to travel while they're under a red wind warning later today.

Storm Isha has begun pounding the country with heavy rain and powerful winds - which are expected to intensify from 5pm, when status orange wind warnings will come into effect nationwide.

That orange warning will be upgraded to red for Galway and Mayo between 5pm and 9pm, and for Donegal from 9pm to 1am.

Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly says this is not your usual storm.
