A Sligo Councillor has welcomed news from the Education Minister on a new student accommodation policy to be rolled out, which will see new accommodation built and vacant buildings repurposed for student beds.
Councillor Thomas Walsh says at a time when housing is a huge national challenge, it’s good news to see the Government putting a long term plan in place to increase the number of available beds for students in third level education.
Each technological university will be written to and asked for plans by the end of March this year.
Additionally, a certain number of beds would be ring fenced for students whose household income is less than €100,000 per annum.
