A man has been remanded in custody, charged with the murder of his mother in Sligo last year.
Angela Canavan’s body was discovered at her home in St John’s Terrace in Sligo Town on May 1 2023.
Her son, 38 year old Nigel Canavan of Erris Gardens, Erris Street, Crossmolina appeared before Carrick on Shannon District Court this morning.
He was arrested at Erris Gardens yesterday afternoon at 4:00pm.
At today’s hearing, Detective Garda Eamon McDonnell in giving evidence said that the accused was taken to Sligo Garda Station and later charged with murder.
Detective McDonnell said, according to RTÉ, that when Mr. Canavan was cautioned he replied that he was not guilty.
Following an application for legal aid by his solicitor John Anderson, Judge Michael Connellan granted legal aid and set a date for his next hearing.
Mr. Canavan was remanded in custody and will appear on Thursday at Sligo District Court via video link.
