David Norris says he'll retire with pride in the new year.
Ireland's longest-serving senator has announced he'll stand down from the Seanad in January.
It will bring to a close a 36 year long career, which included challenging Ireland's ban on homosexuality and running for president.
Senator Norris says he's proud of his achievements.
