Beef products remain safe to eat.
China has suspended Irish beef exports after BSE was detected in a dead cow late last week.
However, trade is continuing elsewhere as normal.
The Department of Agriculture says the animal did not enter the food chain and there is no risk to human health.
Eddie Punch, General Secretary of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers' Association, says the atypical form of BSE is not something to worry about.
