Balla author Máirtín G. O' Maicín will launch his latest book at this year's Wild Atlantic Words Festival.

'On This Day In Mayo' is a unique and compelling read and should be a collector's item for anyone from or with a grá for Mayo.

After four years of extensive research, this book tells the story of Mayo by linking the 366 days of the year with a significant event relating to the county itself or a native.

Every date has its story - whether it was the first time the iconic green and red of Mayo was worn or the kidnap of a Ballina Councillor which resulted in the election of his rival.

The landing of the French in Killala, the Apparition at Knock and the discovery of the Céide Fields are also among some of the historic dates to be included.

These events stretch right back as far as the 12th century, and are as recent as April of this year.

As part of the Wold Atlantic Words Festival on October 11, this book will be launched at the Festival Dome in Bridge Street Castlebar.

The book will be launched by former Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
