Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has confirmed approval from cabinet for the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge project following today’s meeting.
This project will now continue to the construction phase.
Roughly 34km of new single carriageway road will be included in the project, from the N5 Ballaghaderreen Bypass, and bypass areas of Roscommon such as Frenchpark, Bellenagare, Tulsk and Strokestown before linking up with Scramoge.
This project will cost more than €450 million to complete and is estimated to take up to four years to finish.
In the completion of this route, it will eliminate a significant amount of traffic on one of the most dangerous roads currently in the country with a large amount having a collision rate higher than the national average.
