The Law Society is asking the Government to come to the table and discuss the restoration of criminal legal aid fees.

Payment for vital services for criminal defendants who can't afford their own legal defence were slashed during the recession and are almost 30 per cent down on 15 years ago.

Solicitors are warning that "legal aid deserts" are emerging in parts of the country as many are leaving the profession due to the low pay.
