There were 37 percent fewer overseas visitors to Ireland during the Summer according to the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation.

While the North American market has remained strong, the number of people from Britain and Germany coming here is significantly down.

High hotel prices and a severe lack of accommodation in many parts of the country are said to be key factors.
