Councillor James Charity has been elected as Cathaoirleach of Athenry – Oranmore Municipal District.
He was unanimously voted by Council colleagues as the new Cathaoirleach for the final term of the current council at a meeting on Tuesday last.
Councillor Charity’s nomination was put forward by Councillor Jim Cuddy and seconded by Councillor Gabe Cronnelly, and agreed unopposed across the Chamber.
In his appointment, the new Cathaoirleach acknowledged the ongoing potential of the District as the economic and social hub of the county, noting the recent significant FDI into the area.
He pledged to continue the Council’s support on employment in the area, and that rural villages and hubs in the region are given as much attention as the larger urban centres.
