Beaches across the county will see an influx of people over the Bank Holiday Weekend, with the high temperatures and recent closing of the secondary school term.

Cathaoirleach of the Westport Belmullet Municipal District Christy Hyland is issuing an appeal to those planning to head for the coast this weekend to look after the area.

With recent acquisitions of blue flag and green coast awards for beaches across the county, Councillor Hyland says that people must respect the beaches and take home their rubbish or use bins provided.

He is also urging the public to park accordingly so as not to obstruct routes for emergency services and local farmers.
