People are being urged to take measures over the bank holiday to prevent getting sun burn and risking skin cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society says adhering to their SunSmart code is the best way to prevent burning.

It includes wearing a hat, using high factor sunscreen and covering up with cloths.

Director of Advocacy & External Affairs at the Society Rachel Morrogh says skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland, with over 13 thousand new cases diagnosed every year.
