Today County Mayo celebrates Mayo Africa Day.

As part of the celebrations, a Multicultural and Family Day event takes place today at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar.

Between 2:00PM and 5:00PM there will be a display of music, poetry, art and dance.

Over 20 different performers will come together from Africa, Jamaica, Kruistan, Brazil, Ukraine and Ireland.

Among the displays will be an exploration of hair and identity through story, conversation and artwork from African women living in Mayo by artist Breda Mayock.

Performers include musicians like Hakeem Hamid, Robbie Harris and Dudu Batera with traditional Mayo musicians like Diarmaid Moynihan, John Cloherty and Kevin Doocey.

The event is coordinated by Celesta Khosa while DJ Mtoolz will be on duty throughout the day to keep the music flowing throughout the day.
