The anti social behavior and graffiti that is occurring at a Westport town playground, means that it will need to be fenced- off and closed by 6pm daily.

That’s according to Westport councillor Peter Flynn, who has welcomed additional funding for the local authority playground, located beside the Westport Leisure complex, announced last week under the Community Recognition Fund.

In addition, a section of the Murrisk playground that was never opened, is set to open, with funds from the same scheme.

Monies have also been secured under the scheme for developments at the Quay in Westport – boulders are to be installed along the pond to prevent caravan parking impeding on pedestrians, and new facilities at Roman Island.

The Fine Gael councillor told Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley that while the funding amounts are not that big, it’s very welcome for essential local infrastructure…
