There is a need for Government to pay higher grant rate under the Croi Conaithe Scheme to residents of islands, according to Galway deputy Eamon O’Cuiv.
The Fianna Fail deputy says when an islander is renovating a house, whether it’s vacant or derelict on any of our offshore islands, the costs are higher than on the mainland.
He says there is an urgent need for permanent, as distinct from holiday homes, on our offshore islands and he has contacted both the Minister for Housing – Darragh O’Brien and the Minister for Community and Rural Development and the Islands – Heather Humphreys to seek a higher grant rate for applicants.
Deputy O’Cuiv has been telling Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley why a higher grant rate is required to make it viable for an islander to renovate a derelict/ vacant property:
