Members of Castlebar Municipal District are calling on the Road Safety Authority and the government, to give motorists a 12 month NCT cert, from whatever date they manage to secure the test
Over 425 thousand vehicles nationally are currently overdue for the test, with the waiting list up 50 thousand in the past two months alone.
Fine Gael councillor Cyril Burke says he knows of motorists who managed to get an NCT test 8/9 months after their due date, and then their certs are only valid for 3/4 months, and the drivers have to go through the whole process again.
At yesterday’s monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District councillors agreed to write to the Road Safety Authority and to the Dept of Transport, and in light of the excessive waits to get a test, that the cert is valid for either 12 or 24 months, whichever is relevant, from the date the cert is secured, while the backlog in test availability continues.
