The Minister of State for European Affairs, Peter Burke TD, today congratulated 17 local authorities and library services who have been awarded funding under the Department of Foreign Affairs’ 2023 EU50 Local Government Grant Scheme.

A total of €119,700 has been awarded including €2,000 to Mayo County Council.

2023 marks 50 years since Ireland joined the European Communities, now the European Union.

The Government’s EU50 programme, which began in January 2022 and which continues to May 2023 is marking this historic milestone.

Announcing the funding allocations, the Minister of State congratulated the 17 successful projects, all of which will make an extremely valuable contribution to the ongoing debate on Ireland’s place in, and the future role of, the European Union.

Minister Burke has been speaking to Midwest Radio’s Michael D McAndrew about this initiative as well as a number of other items including the Defence Forces Review and yesterday's motion of confidence win for the Government.
