Tributes were paid to a woman who died in a road collision on Achill Island at the weekend, at yesterday’s monthly West Mayo Municipal District.
Anne Shannon (aged in her 80s) of Dooagh, Achill, died when her car collided with a van on the R319, west of Achill Sound at approximately 5:30pm on Friday evening last.
Achill councillor Paul McNamara said that Anne had lived on Achill Island for thirty years and was very involved in the community. He said news of her death came as a shock to the entire community.
Anne’s funeral will take place on Monday next , with more details to come.
