As the number of patients on trolleys waiting for admission to Mayo University Hospital remains high this week, and throughout 2023 so far, the Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District, councillor Michael Kilcoyne is asking HSE Management to provide details of the additional resources given to the Castlebar facility in the aftermath of the closure, in 2011, of the ED at Roscommon University Hospital.

In a written submission to the HSE West Forum meeting next week he seeks information on how many additional consultants, doctors, nurses, support staff, beds, equipment and so on that has been allocated to Mayo University Hospital in the 12 years since.

He is also asking for details on the number of patients who were treated at Mayo University Hospital in the year before the ED at Roscommon University Hospital closed (2010), and how many were treated in the full year (2012) following the closure of the ED at Roscommon University Hospital.
