Mayo County Council has published its payments to elected councillors last year.

The total amount paid out to the thirty council members in Mayo in 2022 was 1.7 million euro.

The amount paid to each councillor varies from 30,500 euro up to 56,600 euro.

Swinford based Fianna Fail councillor Michael Smyth who served as the Cathaoirleach of the authority during part of 2022,  received the highest payment of 56,600 euro.

He is followed by Independent Ballina councillor Seamus Weir, the present Cathaoirleach, who also served in the position for part of 2022, at 52,800 euro.

The payments include in addition to remuneration for every councillor of 26,296 euro -  expenses for conferences in Ireland and abroad, annual allowance, local representative allowance, Cathaoirleach allowance, SPC payment, Audit Committee allowance, and mobile phone allowance.

Castlebar based Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere received the lowest payment from the authority last year at 30,500 euro.
