Unlike most county councils nationally, Mayo County Council has failed to create two key positions to address the crisis in housing and the level of derelict properties in our towns and rural regions. That’s the view of Westport based Fine Gael councillor Peter Flynn.

The councillor expressed his concerns over the lack of a Regeneration Officer and a dedicated Ukrainian resettlement Director of Services in Mayo county Council at the monthly meeting of West Mayo Municipal District.

He urged, that in an era of a housing/ accommodation crisis, that both posts would be immediately put in place.

Despite some of the initiatives recently put in place by government to address dereliction and regeneration, and details of these schemes were outlined to councillors at the monthly meeting, Cllr Flynn told Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley that the county, in his opinion is falling behind on these issues  …
