New legislation will help credit unions develop and grow as a key provider of community banking in Mayo, that’s according to Mayo deputy Alan Dillon.

Speaking on the Credit Union Bill in Dáil Éireann yesterday , the deputy said Credit Unions play a very important role in providing financial services and support to communities in rural Ireland.

The legislation will enable a wider availability of products across credit unions.

In Mayo there are currently 14 Credit Union institutions with a combined total of 97,000 members .
