A patient was left waiting on a trolley at Mayo University Hospital for five days.

The Saolta University Hospital Healthcare Group has revealed that from November 2022 to the end of January 2023 there were 1,624 patients left waiting on trolleys at Mayo University Hospital (MUH).

Over the three-month period, the maximum waiting time on a trolley in the Emergency Department at MUH was five days. This occurred once between November 2022 and January 2023. Saolta said the majority of patients were seen within one day, or less.

The statistics were revealed following a question by Cllr Michael Kilcoyne to the HSE’S Regional Health Forum yesterday

He said the figures are an ‘indictment of the facilities at the hospital.’

Cllr. Kilcoyne has been giving more details to Midwest Radio’s Michael D. McAndrew.
