An Independent Senator is to launch legal action against the Government for tolerating Royal Air Force overflights in Irish airspace.

Galway Senator Gerard Craughwell claims the overflights above the Republic of Ireland are unconstitutional and according to the Irish Independent he is seeking a High Court order to ban them.

The Senator who is a former member of both the Irish and British Defence Forces says allowing the RAF to fly armed aircraft in Irish national airspace, without the agreement or consent of the Dail, is a breach of six different sections of the constitution.
