The green light has been given by councillors for the development of four one- bedroom apartments at a derelict site in Castlebar town.
The development will take place on a derelict site at Lower Charles Street, and could be completed by the end of next year (2024).
Councillors approved a Part 8 Planning for the new housing development at the monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.
All councillors supported the development saying it will provide additional housing in the town and in addition enhance the streetscape.
Cathaoirleach Michael Kilcoyne, said he supported the project and wasn't against the one-bedroom units but believes that two-bed units should be built by the council as a matter of policy, because, he argued, if a person is old or ill and needed family to stay to look after them, an extra bedroom is required.
