The national executive of the Social Democrats is expected to meet tonight to discuss the leadership election process.
It comes after co-leaders, Róisín Shortall and Catherine Murphy, decided to call it a day.
Both are remaining on as TDs.
The party has four other deputies but none has yet declared their intentions.
