The award winning film “An Irish Goodbye”  scooped Best British Short Film at the BAFTAS on Sunday night last, has also been nominated for an Oscar.

The Cinematographer of the short film, set in Northern Ireland and based on two brothers who re-unite following their mother’s untimely death – is a man living in county Mayo.

Multi-award cinematographer Narayan Van Maele lives in Foxford. The Luxembourg native moved to Foxford with his parents twenty years ago and there were great local celebrations in Cashel, Foxford on Sunday evening last when the BAFTA results were being announced.

Midwest News editor Teresa O’Malley spoke to Narayan, back home in Foxford, after the London BAFTA ceremony and congratulated him and the film’s crew on their success….
