Despite considerable works and monies already spent on the Arboley junction in the village of Balla, in recent years, serious road collisions continue to occur at the location.
At a recent special meeting of Mayo County Council, Castlebar Cathaoirleach, Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne proposed that the local authority seek speed limit reductions at the junction, located along the N60 between Balla and Claremorris, in an effort to deal with safety concerns.
The proposal was seconded by Fine Gael councillor Cyril Burke, and cllr Burke explained that he has written to council management seeking a feasibility study and costings on a proposal to extend out the footpath and for lighting out to the head of the Ardboley road.
