West Mayo Municipal District councillors have called on the government to put a halt to the deal between Coillte and a UK based investment fund to buy 120,000 acres of land to plant as forestry.

However, Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue has stated in the past number of days that “it’s a done deal” despite intense opposition to it.

At this week’s monthly meeting of the West Mayo Municpal District, Westport based Independent councillor Johno O’Malley called for the deal to be halted and his call was supported by all councillors present.
