Gardai in Ballinrobe are investigating an assault on a young man at the Corrib Oil Filling Station on the Neale road, Ballinrobe this afternoon.
The incident occurred at 12.17 pm this afternoon and the injured man, a man in his twenties, was taken by ambulance to hospital.
A car believed to be connected to the incident took off in the direction of Tuam and gardai say they have since located an abandoned car outside Kilmaine, and they believe it to be connected to the car that left the scene of the assault.
Two men were observed in the vehicle and gardai are continuing to search for the occupants of the car.
The scene of the assault has been cordoned off and a garda investigation is underway.
Gardai are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious around noon time today in the Ballinrobe area or witnessed the incident at the filling station or may have dashcam footage to contact Claremorris Garda Station.
