A Mayo student has been awarded the Paul Whelan Memorial Scholarship.

The award comes from Intel Shannon in conjunction with their Women in Technology scholarship programme, and three students have been selected for the honour.

Sean Ruane, Castlebar, studies Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Limerick.

He, along with Joel Kavanagh (Kilcullen, Kildare) and Niall Maede (Ardnacrusha, Clare) receive the scholarship, which is named in the memory of Intel Shannon employee Paul Whelan.

A total of 13 students were selected for the Intel Women in Technology scholarship in conjunction with this.

Since the Intel Women in Technology scholarship programme began, it has supported 152 students and a total of €1,800,000 has been invested in the initiative to date.
