A review is underway by Saolta after a patient left Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar in the early hours of Tuesday morning, January 17th.

A major search was initiated in Castlebar in the early hours of Tuesday morning (Jan 17th), after 69 year old Patrick Rowland of Lahardane was reported missing by his family. His body was recovered in the Castlebar river a number of days later.

The Saolta University Health Care Group is the group with responsibility for seven University Hospitals across Connaught and county Donegal, and in response to a query from Midwest News today it confirmed that a review is underway and states that "management and staff at Mayo University Hospital offer their sincere condolences to the family of the patient".

The response concludes saying “as this matter is now under review and in the interests of patient confidentiality, it would be inappropriate to comment further”.
