Donations continue to pour into a GoFundMe account to assist in the repatriation of the remains of a young Pakistani doctor who drowned in what is believed to have been a freak drowning accident in Castlebar over the weekend.
Dr. Farah Ahmed (30) was working as orthopaediac registrar at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar.
She was originally from Karachi, Pakistan.
Dr. Ahmed lost her life just before midnight on Friday night last when the car she was driving ended up in the Castlebar River, close to the town centre.
Gardai believe that Dr. Ahmed was reversing her car at the time and ended up in the water at Hoban’s car park.
Gardai and emergency services assisted in the removal of Dr. Ahmed’s car from the partly submerged car.
However, the young doctor was pronounced dead at the scene.
A GoFundMe fundraiser account set up over the weekend, which had set a target of raising €10,000, has been generously contributed to since Saturday and has to date raised close to 29,000 euro.
