There are 534 people around the country without a hospital bed today, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Cork University Hospital is the worst effected with 56 people on a trolley.

Locally, there's 28 patients on trolleys at Sligo University Hospital, 17 on trolleys at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, 15 at University Hospital Galway and 12 at Mayo University Hospital.

Meanwhile the INMO is calling for stronger public health advice around mandated mask-wearing amid a surge in RSV and respiratory illnesses.
