There are 489 people waiting for beds in Irish hospitals, according to today’s figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

High numbers continue in University Hospital Limerick, which is worst effected on 48 patients.

Across the province, Sligo University Hospital is worst off with 30 people waiting on trollies.

There are 26 waiting at Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinasloe, 20 in Mayo University Hospital and 7 in University Hospital Galway.
