Two Roscommon sisters and champion boxers will be conferred with the freedom of the county later this week.

The honour will be given to Tarmon natives Lisa and Aoife O'Rourke at a ceremony at Aras an Chontae this Wednesday.

They will follow in the footsteps of former recipients Jim Callery, the late Brian O'Doherty, actor Chris O'Dowd and former President Mary McAleese and her husband, Martin.

Toyko Olympian Aoife retained her European middleweight title in October while Lisa enjoyed World Championship success in May.

Members of Roscommon County Council unanimously agreed to confer this special honour on both Aoife and Lisa at separate plenary meetings of the local authority, earlier this year.
