At risk and vulnerable people are being advised by the HSE to take all necessary precautions as figures reveal the flu virus is actively circulating in the community.

The number of confirmed influenza cases increased in the past week, with 192 cases reported up from 170 on the previous week.

Those in the at risk groups are being advised to get the flu vaccine which is free of charge.

The symptoms of influenza usually develop over a matter of a few hours and include a high temperature, sore muscles, dry cough, headache and sore throat
