The death of a 14-year-old, county Mayo, secondary school student, three weeks after he was inoculated with the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has been described by the Coroner for Mayo, Pat O’Connor as “a matter of significant public concern”.
A major investigation is now to be conducted into the death of Joseph McGinty from The Valley, Achill.
The probe will include a request for safety information from Pfizer, the Covid-19 manufacturer.
Joseph received the vaccine on August 20th of last year (2021). He died at home three weeks later.
Rita Kilroy, counsel for the McGinty family, told an inquest yesterday in Castlebar there is a concern for public health and safety arising from the circumstances of the death.
Coroner O’Connor said there appeared to have been a reaction following the administration of the vaccine, and that subsequently Joseph McGinty died.
He went on to say he was very conscious of the great trauma suffered by the McGinty family. He explained it could be some years before the investigation was completed and the matter was finalised.
Coroner O’Connor, at the request of Ms. Kilroy, is to make a request for legal aid and legal advice for the McGinty family under Section 60 of the Coroners Act 1962.
The coroner then adjourned the inquest to December 20th at Swinford Courthouse for mention.
