Mayo teacher Enoch Burke has formally lodged an appeal against a High Court injunction preventing him from attending or teaching at a Co. Westmeath school.

Mr Burke, who says he will not address a student as they, has been in Mountjoy prison since last month and will remain until he obeys the court order not to attend or teach any classes at Wilson Hospital School in Westmeath.

Yesterday afternoon, he formally lodged his appeal against the injunction at the office of the Court of Appeal.

His appeal is due to be mentioned before the Court of Appeal later this month but is unlikely to be heard before Christmas.

After the appeal was lodged, Mr Burke was transported back to Mountjoy Prison.
