County Galway schoolboy, Matthew McNena (aged 10) from Oranmore, who’s a pupil in Gaelscoil de hÍde, has had his short story featured in children’s book: Tall Tales Short Stories.
The book is the product of a global story competition run by tech company Learning Pool, and all royalties on the sale of the book (estimated between 20-34% of the sale price) will be donated to Make-A-Wish International, a global charity that creates life-changing wishes for critically ill children.
Earlier this year aspiring writers, aged between 7 and 12 years old, were invited to submit a story about a mythical creature. With hundreds of entries from all over the world, Matthew’s story ‘Mythical Creature, Humans: A Look at Life on Earth from 2021’ impressed the judges and earned him a cash prize and the opportunity to have his story published.
Matthew says he’s overjoyed. “I love writing stories, so when I heard I was one of the winners and my story was going to be published I was ecstatic. I hope we raise lots of money for the charity.”
