The exclusion of the North West Region for T-Ten funding from the EU by the Irish Government is absolutely remarkable.

That’s the view of Mayo Councillor Gerry Murray, who claims the European Commission was astonished that the ‘lagging’ region has not being nominated for critical infrastructural funding.

The local region has been downgraded to a 'lagging region' after becoming significantly poorer relative to the EU average and is now the only part of Ireland to be classed as such.

Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry Murray says it is not good enough that the North and West region has not been put forward for T-Ten funding by Government.

Councillor Murray told Midwest News that he is appealing to local Oireachtas members to put pressure on Government to allow the area to apply for much needed EU funding.
