A gastropub in Ballinrobe is facing a four times increase in its electricity bill this year, compared to last year, and owner Ciarán Ferriter says business at present is as unpredictable as playing Bingo or the Lotto.
Ciarán and his wife Margaurite run The Bowers Bar and Restaurant in Ballinrobe town and are open for business early till late daily. Like so many other businesses at present, because of the uncertainty in costs and overheads, the future remains uncertain.
Ciarán says that next week’s budget must address more than the rising cost of energy for businesses, if they are to survive.
